Transforming the way hundreds of passengers navigate the Dominican Republic’s Massive Transportation System (MTS), by reimagining the intercity travel experience.
Digital Solution for Travel Ticket Balance Management
Santo Domingo, one of Latin America's fastest-growing cities, is projected to expand by 4.9% annually by 2035 (BBC News). Despite being the top choice for many Dominicans, the new Mass Transportation System struggles with long lines and a cash-only payment method.
Uncovering Insights Through Contextual Research
During my inquiry, I observed that:
Seamless Navigation: The integration of Subway and Zipline works well—users know exactly where to go.
Effective Mapping: Opret’s intuitive maps, with clear signs and symbols, make it easy to navigate.
Ticket Reader Issue: Although adding at least RD$35 triggers balance recognition, the reader still fails to acknowledge the balance when purchasing trips.
Overall Experience: Despite these hiccups, I reached my destination safely, highlighting opportunities for a more holistic improvement of the Mass Transportation System.
